Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
