Together Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a challenge for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. The 2025 indie hit recently had its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it may seem like typical biological terror, but beneath Together exists a profound contemplation about how we choose to love our partners.

A Debut Feature Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for over ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a special spark to their characters, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the country for professional reasons. A commonly used plot device, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches cease. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the pair. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a methodically building horror experience, blending bits of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). The director skillfully blends these components expertly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He dreads the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie avoids making either of his characters the clear bad guy.

The couple face the sort of issues that arise in any relationship over a long period. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of excessive reliance and giving oneself over to a partner, the symbolism never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a strong argument for staying single. On the other hand, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply look at your significant other and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is streaming on Hulu at present.
